Parish Nurse
Parish Nurse Ministry:
Responding to the healing ministry of Jesus, the parish nurse is committed to nourishing, sustaining and supporting the health (physical, emotional and spiritual) of the people of this parish and its community. The parish nurse is a registered nurse with specialized knowledge who is called to ministry to promote health, healing and wholeness. This staff worker is responsible to the Rector and works in collaboration with the Rector, Pastoral Care Team and the Health Council. She walks alongside individuals to provide health counsel and support and works with the Health council and other members of the pastoral care team to help achieve the goals of St. John’s ministry of healing. A parish nurse does not provide diagnosis or treatment and is not a home health nurse. A nurse on the church staff is a visible sign of the close tie between our faith and our health.
Our parish nurse at St. John’s is Elsie Millerd. She is an experienced registered nurse with specialized training theology and pastoral care. She joined the staff of St. John’s in October, 2006.
